Color, Depth & Effects for Stoneware Ceramics
Stoneware Glazes for Rich Color and Surface Effects
Stoneware glazes are used at higher firing temperatures and can produce glossy, matte, satin or reactive surfaces depending on the individual product. The final effect depends not only on the glaze itself but also on the clay body, application thickness, firing temperature and firing schedule.
For More Predictable Results
– match the firing range of each glaze to the clay body
– follow the recommended application thickness and method
– when layering glazes, allow for possible movement and running
– test new clay-and-glaze combinations on sample pieces first
For functional ware, also follow the manufacturer's information about the intended use of the specific glaze.
